About us

We would rather
be right than
optimistic.

Quwa Smart Services is a specialized, client-focused engineering firm working on energy management, building optimization and decarbonization. We do audits, design, recommissioning and verification — and we publish the uncertainty next to every number we produce.

A quarter of the buildings we assess go on to secure retrofit funding — the step that turns a study into a project.

How we work

Four commitments.

These are not values on a wall. They are the reasons our reports look different from the ones you are used to receiving.

The bias we try to correct

The cheapest
kilowatt-hour is
the one a
corrected
sequence never
uses.

There is a structural bias in this industry toward capital projects. Capital projects have vendors, and vendors have marketing budgets. Nobody sells recommissioning at a trade show.

But in building after building, the largest single available saving is not a new machine. It is a sequence of operations that stopped matching reality some years ago — a sensor reading a fixed value, a seasonal changeover that never fires, an air handler overcooling air that something downstream then reheats.

We look for that first. Not out of frugality, but because you cannot properly size a capital project inside a building whose controls are lying to you. The load profile you would design against is itself an artefact of the fault.

Standards

Frameworks
we work to.

Working to a published standard means someone else can check our arithmetic. That is the point of them.

ASHRAE Level I–III

Energy audit scope, from walk-through survey to investment-grade analysis, with the depth of measurement matched to the size of the decision.

IPMVP

Options A through D for savings verification. We state which option we are using, why, and what its uncertainty is.

ASHRAE Guideline 14

Statistical requirements for baseline models — R², CV(RMSE) and NMBE limits that a fitted model has to clear before we will build a savings claim on it.

BOMA BEST & Enspire

Phase I and II building performance assessment, and Retrofit Ready funding streams under NRCan's Deep Retrofit Accelerator Initiative.

IESO Save on Energy

Peak Performance Program aggregation, delivered through our Q-Peak platform.

Professional credentials

Work is led by licensed professional engineers holding P.Eng., PMP and Certified Energy Manager designations.
